Understanding Your Child's Learning Profile

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that identifies your child's cognitive strengths, learning challenges, and academic potential. Whether your child is struggling in school, needs accommodations, or you're seeking admission to a gifted program, our assessment provides the answers and documentation you need.

Assessments are conducted by our team of registered psychologists, led by clinic owner Stephanie Laborge, M.Ed, R.Psych, a Registered Psychologist (#5210) with the College of Alberta Psychologists, with expertise in childhood learning, ADHD, and giftedness.

  • We conduct psychoeducational assessments for children and adolescents ages 4-17. We also assess young adults (18+) for specific purposes like post-secondary accommodations or ADHD diagnosis.

  • The testing itself typically takes 2-4 hours spread over 2-3 appointments. The complete process from intake to final report takes 4-6 weeks.

  • Most children actually enjoy the assessment! We use engaging, game-like activities and puzzles. Stephanie Laborge creates a warm, supportive environment where children feel comfortable. Parents often tell us their child asks when they can come back!

  • Yes! We offer flexible scheduling including weekend and evening appointments to accommodate busy families and minimize disruption to your child's school day.

A psychoeducational assessment is comprehensive—it includes IQ testing PLUS academic achievement testing, executive functioning evaluation, and social-emotional factors. It provides a complete picture of your child's learning profile.

    • Learning Disabilities (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia)

    • ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)

  • Previous assessments "age out" after 3-5 years for most programs and accommodations. If your child's learning profile has changed, or you need updated documentation for high school transitions or post-secondary, a current assessment is needed.

  • We offer separate autism assessments using gold-standard diagnostic tools (ADOS-2, ADI-R). While psychoeducational assessments can identify some autism-related patterns, a dedicated autism assessment is more comprehensive if that's your primary concern.
